Ghosts

$1,700.00

Ghosts began as a reflection on commitment and monogamy, with two cranes at its center. A lyric - “Forever is a fiction, nothing lasts” overheard while working —shifted the painting’s direction, raising a question: if nothing lasts forever, why do we keep reaching for permanence?

Vintage housewife imagery, gifted by Tanno’s mother, entered the composition as that inquiry expanded. Eleven women emerged through layers of paint and collage, bringing questions of identity, conditioning, and desire into the foreground. Who do we become in relationships? Do we want the lives we have been taught to pursue? What has sustained us, what have we outgrown, and what do we want now?

These figures became the foundation for 11:11: A Collection of Programmed Archetypes, a limited run of handcrafted tarot cards created by the artist, inspired by the vintage images.

Reimagined as individual oracle cards, the women give distinct voices to the patterns explored within the painting: self-deception, resistance, longing, and the freedom to choose differently. Each offers a point of recognition—a way to consider who we are in a particular season of life, the roles we repeat, and who we might become as we examine these archetypes within ourselves.
